Creative Manifesting

My friends and colleagues sometimes ask about manifesting - "Can it really be done?"
"Sure, why not?"  I always dip into my past and bring out a fantastic example.

I always had a passion for Austria.  It was from all those times seeing The Sound of Music as a kid.  When I was 8 or 9, I said, “I’m going there sometime, and fly over those mountains in a helicopter.”  Whenever it came on TV, I didn’t always watch the movie all the way through, but I was sure to turn it on to see the helicopter shots of the mountains on the intro, and Maria dancing in the fields with the snow caps in the background. Remember, this was in the days before video.

My 10th grade world history class assigned us to do a presentation of a European country. Naturally, I chose Austria. I probably kept the poster for another 3 years after the presentation day. I had it in my room for the rest of the semester.

My then husband’s job moved us to Germany when I was 26.  A year later, I went with a friend to Innsbruck for a weekend.  A couple years later, I planned a trip to Salzburg with my sister. We did the Sound of Music tour in honor of our mother, who died 2 years earlier.  We took our niece and nephew to Salzburg when they came to visit a few years later.  The Outdoor Rec's annual snowboarding trips happened to be at a resort near Salzburg, starting when I was 38.  I always loved going there.

Once, after about 7 years of regular trips to the area, I stopped in my tracks – almost falling off my snowboard.  As I looked down at the snow-covered peaks, it occurred to me that those were the very mountains that were filmed in the Sound of Music. I remembered my presentation.  “Wow! That was a vision board!”

The reason I’m bringing this whole story up is to demonstrate that visualizations do work – even when you don’t know you’re doing it.

As I watched the mountains on the screen, thinking, “Someday, I’ll go to see those mountains…”, I was making an intention. Not once that I think about how it would happen, or even put an attachment on the outcome. I didn’t think, “what if it doesn’t happen?”; nor did I think about how to get there. At age 8, I had no concept of what was possible 20 years into the future.  I let it go.

As I visited Austria, I wasn’t thinking about the process, or how hard it would be to make it happen. I just did it. It wasn’t a question. I knew that’s what I was going to do.

Now, I can count back the steps of how it happened. Nine years after the high school presentation, my then fiancé got orders to go to Germany.  I can’t even think of the steps that happened that first ten years, (such as how my ex-husband and I met, the people who introduced us, etc.) which might have contributed. It just happened. Everything lined up from the time I was 8.

Folks, don’t even let the ‘how tos’ or ‘what if it doesn’t happen?’ come to play.  Just accept it will and let it go.

Now, I invite you to do a little tracking game.  Think of something that you have right now in your life which you’re really excited about…….  (the love of your life, your cat, an event, your house, your Toyota, your bicycle….)  Now, track back all the steps that got you there, from now, until say,  when you wished for it.  Think of all the times you might have done something else, like stayed home instead of shopping with your best friend.  Do you catch what I’m getting at?

Now, go back to your childhood, as far as you can remember, and see if you can think of anything you wished for. Start writing them down and see what pops up.  I’ll bet you a cappuccino that you can think of at least one thing you managed to get in your life.   I know this is silly, but when I was 22, I wanted so bad to have an ’87 Grand Am.  I thought they looked cool. The funny thing is, in 2001, when my Nissan was totaled, I ended up having to grab the first hupty on the used car lot to last me a few months until I could replace it. Guess what it was?  Yep, an ’87 Grand Am. Sometimes our manifestations come a little late. I patted myself on the back and said “Good Girl.”  Each time I got better.

I’ve played around with this for a couple of decades. It’s sometimes trial and error, but we all get smarter as we go.   Have fun!!

As an added bonus, I’m going to share with you the 6 Principles of Manifestation.
